Quiet Progress Isn't Nothing!

A Seven of Pentacles appreciation and Black History Month reflections.

It’s Never Too Late: A Vision Board Party Event

Hello,

First, I want to begin by thanking everyone who showed up for my first event, It’s Never Too Late: A Vision Board Party. I’m truly honoured to have been trusted with guiding you into the world of vision boards, and equally grateful for the opportunity to work on my own alongside you. We shared, we dreamed, we cut magazines, munched on fruit, connected both in person and online, and most importantly, we manifested and gave specificity to our visions. This first event was a success, and it sparked a deeper desire to expand and develop more spaces for us to gather, share, and collaborate in community.

I don’t know if it was just me, but from many conversations and a bit of informal data collecting, January felt like both the slowest and the quickest month all at once. News-wise and politically, it seemed as though there was a new development every single day: country leaders being kidnapped, unlikely alliances forming, the oppressed finding the courage to fight back and speak up, civil unrest at an all-time high. And yet, here we are, individually still trying to pay our bills, meet our responsibilities, and tend to the needs of our day-to-day lives.

This month, I decided to break up with my phone. It seems like a counterintuitive thing to do considering our phones literally hold everything, and especially as an entrepreneur, my phone is my lifeline and my connection to my clients and the publication and promotion of my work. But the screams expressed from my intuition were too strong to ignore, and I couldn’t continue to work past this hurdle I was feeling. Truthfully, social media has never been my go-to or favourite place to be, but the way these tools are designed, they hook you.

I had taken a social media break back in 2020, when the information I was consuming (my feed, rather) was really taking a toll on my mental health. I was finding myself internalizing and absorbing what I was consuming, and it felt like too much. That’s when I deactivated all my accounts (that weren’t particularly active in the first place) and vowed to return only once there would be a purpose. That purpose became Nubian Divinity.

Six years later, it feels only natural to require a tweak. While my presence on social media is now far more intentional and purposeful, I still catch myself slipping into doomscrolling before bed, mistaking it for rest, only to wonder why I feel more tired, more anxious, and overstimulated. That level of overconsumption dulls my intuition rather than sharpening it.

Without going on and on, I want to gently loop us back to where this relationship with social media began. This month has been filled with small but meaningful realizations and shifts. It started with not bringing my phone into the bedroom, so it isn’t the first thing I reach for in the morning. It continued with adding a few more gym sessions and moments of physical movement throughout the week, completing my vision board, and preparing for the many upcoming events ahead.

This is where the Seven of Pentacles comes in. This card speaks to consistency, observation, and patience, understanding that growth unfolds when we tend to what we’ve planted. January felt like an embodiment of this energy: pausing to evaluate what’s working, what isn’t, where we need to supplement, and where we need to pull back. Quiet progress. Steady effort. Trusting the process.

Black History Month

February is also Black History Month, which is a time for remembrance, pride, and reclamation. While my work doesn’t focus on current events or political discourse, it is deeply rooted in honouring lineage, resilience, and lived truth. As a Black woman, these histories are not separate from the present moment, and acknowledging them feels especially meaningful right now.

A fun (and meaningful) tarot-adjacent note: Pamela Coleman Smith, the artist behind the Rider–Waite–Smith tarot deck as we know it today, is widely believed to have been of Afro-Caribbean descent which is an often-overlooked reminder of Black influence woven into spiritual traditions many of us use daily.

Nubian Divinity itself is an homage to Black civilizations whose contributions have shaped so much of the world we live in today. Celebrating Black History Month is an act of reclamation, of pride, resilience, creativity, and brilliance beyond narratives of oppression. I invite you to learn something new this month, support Black-owned businesses where you can, and engage in community spaces that uplift Black stories of success, joy, and innovation. As always, thank you for being here and for supporting me and Nubian Divinity. Your presence and care do not go unnoticed.

Monthly Reading:

For this February’s reading, I leaned into a gentle yet grounding check-in using the Connecting to Personal Power tarot spread from Emerald Lotus.

In the energy of the Seven of Pentacles, this spread felt especially fitting by inviting us to pause, reflect, and tend to what we’ve already planted. As we wait for harvest, this is a beautiful time to assess where our energy is going, plan for what’s ahead, and intentionally “meal prep” for how we’ll use the fruits of our labour when they’re ready. The tarot deck I used today for this reading is The Unveiled Tarot by Jesse Lonergan.

If you’re exploring tarot or dabbling in your own readings, feel free to use this spread yourself. Tarot spreads offer structure and focus, making it easier to check in with your energy, emotions, and the subtle shifts unfolding beneath the surface.

Additional Updates

I’m back to doing in-person events again! Below, you’ll find the information for the events I’ll be at over the upcoming weeks.
