We've turned the page into 2026!
Happy New Year! (or at least one of them.)
Hello,
First of all, I’d like to start by wishing you a very Happy New Year (to you and yours).
I’m sure you’ve seen this continuously (or maybe it’s just my algorithm), but we’ve transitioned from the Year of the Snake into the Year of the Horse. The Snake was about revealing and shedding truths, habits, thought patterns, relationships and anything you felt was no longer in alignment with your bigger picture. It also tied to the year of the Hermit, which is the ninth card of the Major Arcana in the tarot deck. The Hermit is about introspection, intuition and isolation, where you use that time to reevaluate your surroundings and priorities.
I was using the Tarot Emblemata for a personal reading recently and in this version and I pulled the Hermit card. In this version, the Hermit is not portrayed as someone meant to disappear indefinitely into solitude. Instead, the description suggests something more nuanced: withdrawal is a phase, not a destination. The Hermit steps away from noise and distraction to refine insight, but the wisdom gained in isolation is meant to move, not stagnate.
Left alone for too long, the Hermit risks mistaking withdrawal for truth itself. Insight without engagement can quietly drift into disconnection. The lantern the Hermit carries is not only for personal illumination but it is a light meant to be seen, carried forward, and eventually shared. In this way, the Hermit’s task is not to remain apart from the world, but to re-enter it with clarity, discernment, and grounded presence.
This is where the transition begins.
After a period of reflection, stillness, and inner reckoning, something shifts. The pause ends. The body remembers motion.
As we move toward 2026, the Year of the Horse, the contrast becomes striking. The Horse does not hesitate once the gate opens. Where the Hermit teaches us why we move, the Horse teaches us how, with momentum, instinct, and forward drive. The Hermit refines the inner compass; the Horse trusts it and gallops.
The movement we feel building toward 2026 is not arriving out of nowhere. It has been set in motion by the turning of the Wheel.
We are coming out of Year X, The Wheel of Fortune. A year governed by cycles, shifts, and forces larger than our individual will. The Wheel reminds us that not everything is meant to be controlled; some things are only meant to be witnessed, integrated, and allowed to move us forward in their own time. In many ways, this year has quietly positioned us by loosening what was stuck, revealing patterns, and preparing the ground beneath our feet.
The Wheel does not turn without consequence, but it also does not ask us to control every outcome. It reminds us that timing, fate, and choice are intertwined. And from this turning emerges the next archetype often associated with 2026: The Magician.
Where the Wheel presents options, the Magician reveals capacity. Endless potential and also responsibility. Skill. Focus. Agency. If the Wheel shows us the variety of paths available, the Magician reminds us that we already possess the tools, will, discipline, and insight to move through whichever path we choose.
As a reading, if we were to lay The Hermit → The Wheel of Fortune → The Magician, the message would be clear: Your period of isolation and introspection was preparation. You are now equipped to meet choice with confidence. No matter where you land, you are resourced enough to navigate what unfolds.
Remember, this insight is not meant to pressure you. It is not a measure of how “far along” you should be. Instead, let it be fuel, not guilt.
Completion looks different for everyone. For some, it may be a bold leap forward. For others, it may be the quiet recognition that something has already ended or no longer needs to be carried. Where you are in your journey is not a mistake; it is part of the cycle itself. These reflections are offered only as guidance and inspiration, a way to anchor ourselves gently as we step into the year ahead.
It’s also worth remembering: a new year is not bound to a calendar.
We collectively recognize January as a threshold, but new beginnings happen whenever we decide to claim them. The Lunar/Chinese New Year, Spring, the Nowruz (Persian New Year), and even the quiet reset many of us feel in September all remind us that renewal is cyclical, not singular. You don’t miss your moment. It comes back around, again and again.
The Wheel has turned. The path is open. And you get to choose when, and how you step into motion.
As as we step toward 2026, may we carry the Hermit’s wisdom, respect the Wheel’s timing, and trust the Magician within us. Not rushing. Not forcing. Just moving forward with intention.
Monthly Reading:
January is a great time for a check-in, which is why I’ve selected the Hand Me That Pencil tarot spread “A Gentle Soul Check-in”.
Feel free to use these spread for yourself if you’re exploring tarot or dabbling into your own readings. Tarot spreads help to bring a certain structure to your readings and it’s a lovely way to check in with your energy, your emotions, and the subtle shifts that may surface.

Additional Updates
I’m hosting my first event and named it: It’s Never Too Late! - A Vision Board Party. I named it “It’s Never Too Late!” because I’m usually doing mine before we ring in the New Year, but it hasn’t been possible for me this year. This is a remind to me and to anyone else who may be feeling behind, that it’s never too late to get vision boarding!
Vision Boards have been a part of my life since 2018. I’ve never looked back. It’s such an important practice to my new year, to just see my goals laid out in front of me every morning. This was introduced to me through a friend and I believe that it’s now my turn to pay it forward and share this excellent manifestation tool with others.
The tickets can be found here and there’s also an online only option you can select at checkout if you can’t make it in person. Supplies will be provided in addition to light snacks and refreshments (because is it a party if there’s no food?). As a person with dietary restrictions, I can assure that there will be peanut, dairy and gluten free options available.
I’ll be hosting this event downtown Toronto in the Distillery District with the exact address shared after ticket purchase.
